Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene (PP), also known as polypropene, is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications. It is produced via chain-growth polymerization from the monomer propylene. Polypropylene is the second-most widely produced commodity plastic (after polyethylene).

Applications:

Polypropylene Homopolymer is the most widely utilized general-purpose grade. It contains only propylene monomer in a semi-crystalline solid form. Main applications include packaging, textiles, healthcare, pipes, automotive and electrical applications. It has co-monomer units arranged in regular pattern (or blocks).

  • Plastic furniture
  • Low friction applications, such as gears in machinery and vehicles.

It is highly resistant to chemical corrosion, making it an excellent choice for packaging for:

  • Cleaning products
  • Bleaches and
  • First-aid products

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)

ABS stands for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. ABS is an impact-resistant engineering thermoplastic & amorphous polymer. ABS is made up of three monomers: acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene:

  • Acrylonitrile: It is a synthetic monomer produced from propylene and ammonia. This component contributes to ABS chemical resistance & heat stability
  • Butadiene: It is produced as a by-product of ethylene production from steam crackers. This component delivers toughness & impact strength to ABS polymer
  • Styrene: It is manufactured by dehydrogenation of ethyl benzene. It provides rigidity & processability to ABS plastic

Key Properties of ABS

  • High rigidity
  • Good impact resistance, even at low temperatures
  • Good insulating properties
  • Good weldability
  • Good abrasion and strain resistance

Applications :

  • Automotive components,
  • Computer housing,
  • Machine components,
  • Housing and construction, etc.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), also known as acrylic or acrylic glass, is a transparent and rigid thermoplastic material widely used as a shatterproof replacement for glass.

Applications :

  • Architecture and Construction
  • Lighting
  • Automotive and Transportation
  • Electronics
  • Medical and Healthcare
  • Furniture

Styrene Acrylonitrile Resin (SAN)

SAN, the predecessor of ABS is a hard-rigid transparent material. The transmittance in the visible range is greater than 90% therefore it is easily colored, it is also resistant to thermal shock and has a good chemical resistance.

PROPERTIES

  • Rigid,
  • Transparent,
  • Tough,
  • Resistant to greases,
  • Stress cracking and crazing,
  • Easily processed,
  • Resistant to food stains.

POLYCARBONATE (PC)

Polycarbonate (PC) plastics are a naturally transparent amorphous thermoplastic. Although they are made commercially available in a variety of colors (perhaps translucent and perhaps not), the raw material allows for the internal transmission of light nearly in the same capacity as glass. Polycarbonate plastics are engineering plastics in that they are typically used for more capable, robust materials such as in impact resistant “glass-like” surfaces.

  • Clear windows on prototype models
  • Color tinted translucent prototypes
  • Clear tubes for sports equipment prototypes
  • Diffusers and light pipes for LEDs
  • Clear molds for urethane and silicone casting

NYLON

Nylons are some of the most common polymers used as fibers. Nylon has excellent properties for use in fishing line and trimmer line, plus it’s used for some “plastic” screws and push-in connectors. You’ll find nylons in cars and in your home if you just look. Nylon is also found in clothing such as windbreakers, and (ahem…) lingerie, but also in other places, in the form of a thermoplastic. Nylons are also called polyamides, because of the characteristic amide groups in the backbone chain.

APPLICATIONS :

  • Electrical & Electronics Applications
  • Automotive Applications
  • Food Packaging with PA6 & PA66

Acetal or Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Polyacetal, also commonly known as acetal or polyoxymethylene (POM), is a formaldehyde-based, semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic which contains the functional group of a carbon bonded to two -OR groups. It is 100% recyclable. POM is known as polyformaldehyde, polymethylene glycol and polyoxymethylene glycol.

APPLICATIONS:

AUTOMATIVE :

  • Fuel Rails,
  • Fuel Supply Unit,
  • Seatbelt Adjuster,
  • Vapor Control Valves,
  • Automotive Clip

Medical and Healthcare:

  • Insulin Syringe,
  • Electrical Tooth Brush

Industrial Uses :

  • Shower Head ,
  • Pipe Couplings ,
  • Automatic Water Valve

Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA)

Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) – ASA is produced by introducing a grafted acrylic ester elastomer during the copolymerization reaction between styrene and acrylonitrile. Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate material has great toughness and rigidity, good chemical resistance and thermal stability, outstanding resistance to weather, aging and yellowing, and high gloss.

Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) was first introduced by BASF in about 1970 as Luran S. The intent was to create a material similar to ABS but with better weather resistance. Because of this attribute acrylonitrile styrene acrylate has been used heavily in the automotive industry, as well as several other outdoor applications.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Include styrene sheets,
  • Safety helmets,
  • Sports & leisure items, etc.

ACRYLIC :

Acrylic is a transparent plastic material with outstanding strength, stiffness, and optical clarity. Acrylic sheet is easy to fabricate, bonds well with adhesives and solvents, and is easy to thermoform. It has superior weathering properties compared to many other transparent plastics.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Lenses,

  • Acrylic nails,

  • Paint,

  • Security barriers,

  • Medical devices,

  • LCD screens,

  • And furniture.

Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT)

Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic material. It has similar properties and composition to polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is a member of polyester family of polymers.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Windshield wiper covers
  • Mirror housings
  • Cowl vents
  • Handles and fans
  • Fuel system components
  • Connectors, sensor housings and fuse boxes
  • Motor components and ignition system components
